Harborside Supports Center of Hope!

Sunday, August 01, 2010
On Sunday, August 1, our entire congregation had the opportunity to assist in a unique missions project.  We are partnering with the Center of Hope, a residential Christian discipleship recovery program in Clearwater, to provide useable items to be sold in their thrift stores, which help to fund their residential housing ministry.

Over the past four years Center of Hope has helped more than 600 men regain meaningful full-time work, reunite with their families, attend Bible College or enter full-time ministry.  Additionally, 200 people have committed their lives to Christ and were baptized.  Check out www.clearwaterdreamcenter.com for additional information on their ministry. The primary focus of Center of Hope is to bring people closer to God and, by doing so, help them to resolve problems in their lives, which have brought them there seeking help.

Harborsiders responded by bringing MOUNDS of clothing, shoes and household items, evidenced by the photo!

Nicaragua Pastors' Conference

Friday, June 25, 2010
Harborside just completed another pastors' training conference in Nicaragua. The conference, hosted by our very own Brenda Rose (serving as a missionary with Missionary Ventures), was held June 14th through 16th in the capital of Managua.   These series of conferences are meeting the needs of the pastors.  The Nicaraguan people have endured many hardships: corrupt dictatorships, civil war, the 1972 earthquake, destructive hurricanes, etc.  The combined effects of these difficulties have had economic consequences, such that the majority of pastors are unable to afford Bible or seminary training.

This was now the 11th conference sponsored by our group of solid Christian ministries: Logoi, Walk Thru The Bible, Missionary Ventures, Celebrate Recovery and Harborside Christian Church.  The conference series is gaining momentum, as we had approximately 120 pastors attending.  Each day, many of the pastors travelled 2 hours in the morning and then 2 hours in the evening to return home.  This shows their great hunger to receive training.  Many different denominations were represented, and the pastors are developing a Kingdom view and are more unified.

The theme of this conference was church leadership. Professors included Kurt Parker, who taught sessions on integrity and on wisdom; Danita Parker, who taught on prayer; and Carlos Lizardi, who introduced the Celebrate Recovery ministry to a group of 39 enthusiastic pastors. Sylvette Sola did an outstanding job in translation.  My wife, Mary Anne, and I rounded out the Harborside Team and were there to support in whatever capacity possible.

Seminar for Parents and Teens

Thursday, May 06, 2010
Complimentarianism. Spell check doesn’t even recognize that word, but I assure you, it’s a real thing. It is the understanding that men and women, boys and girls, are both made equally in God’s image. They are equal in worth and value – but vastly different in giftedness and calling. Men and women TOGETHER are the complete picture that God wanted to paint. In our culture’s attempt to make men and women equal, we have cheapened both. We have robbed ourselves of what makes being male and female unique and priceless. Who are we as men and women of God? What is Godly masculinity and femininity?

Threefold Student Ministries presents a seminar, entitled Combat, Twirly Skirts and Marriage, for Middle School & High School parents and teens on Friday, May 7, @ 6pm.  Join us in the main auditorium as youth pastor, Tommy Shelton sheds some light on the complicated issue of complementarianism.  What does the Bible say about what men and women were created to be and do?  What does a Godly marriage look like?  And, yes, he will remind us all how traditional dating falls so far short of holding true to God’s values.
